IMail™ Server for Windows NT
SMTP / POP3 Mail Server

Download a FREE evaluation copy of this inexpensive, industrial- strength SMTP / POP3 mail server for Windows NT, and see for yourself why it beats your UNIX based mail system — hands down! IMail Server for Windows NT is a high-performance SMTP / POP3 mail server that will help you manage your Internet and corporate intranet electronic mail — efficiently and economically. Easy to administer through a simple, intuitive graphical user interface, it offers businesses an attractive alternative to more complex, higher-priced UNIX based systems. Easy-to-use features improve productivity, and unlike other Internet mail products, IMail Server for Windows NT is non-proprietary and does not require a gateway* or UNIX expertise.

Recently chosen as one of the "best-of-breed" components to be included in the new WebMaker Internet server from networkMCI. The foundation of an integrated family of Internet server software products, IMail Server for Windows NT is available for a range of scalable, price/performance platforms that include Intel, DEC/Alpha, and PowerPC. Although IMail Server comes standard with ten free single-user licenses for IMail Client for Windows, it also can be used with any other POP3 mail client — giving you complete flexibility in setting up a total mail solution that incorporates disparate mail clients.

New in Version 3.0:
Built-in Monitoring, Notification, and Restart IMail Server for Windows NT can monitor specific services and resources associated with the NT server on which it resides. These include SMTP, POP3, WWW, News, and DNS services in addition to external router and disk space. With built-in notification capabilities, system administrators are assured of knowing if something goes wrong with any of their mission-critical services. In addition, each of the monitored services can be set up to automatically restart itself, or each can be restarted remotely using IMail Server’s remote administration capabilities.
Multidomain Support through Virtual Hosts IMail Server supports an unlimited number of user accounts. In addition, with Version 3.0 it provides multidomain support for mail by implementing multiple virtual hosts on a single Windows NT system. This approach yields a number of advantages, particularly for ISPs who can now create a different virtual host to represent each customer’s domain.
Remote Administration via the Web

IMail's Web Remote Administration

IMail Server’s remote administration features include a Web interface that makes administration extremely convenient. Using any forms-capable Web browser, administrators can add, delete, or change users and aliases, and users can change individual passwords, Finger plans, and vacation messages. In addition, the status of selected services can be monitored from the Web.
Administrator-Set Limits IMail Server allows system administrators to set limits on mailbox size and the number of messages for each user. They can also set a maximum message size for each virtual host. These features give administrators more control over the server’s resources while helping to prevent mismanagement and abuse by users.
Ability to Use NT User Authentication Database Although IMail Server provides system administrators with the ability to create their own unique IMail user accounts, they also have the option of using the Windows NT user database or a specified subset for each virtual host. Some system administrators like the simplicity of using this common mechanism for registering users.
Optional Mail-to-Pager Capability With IMail Server’s mail-to-pager capability, system administrators can create special aliases that route messages to users’ alphanumeric pagers. The sender’s identification and the first 250 characters of a message can be read by the receiving pager. The entire message can also be saved in a user-specified mailbox.
Optional Mail-to-Fax Capability IMail Server’s mail-to-fax capability allows system administrators to create special aliases that route messages directly to a fax machine. This feature allows ISPs, for example, to set up e-mail accounts for customers who do not have a PC or Internet access and want to receive e-mail messages via a fax machine. With this option, other users could send fax messages from their desks by sending e-mail to a special account on a local server that faxes it to the recipient. (Note: Mail-to-Fax option only available for Intel versions of IMail Server.)
Optional DNS Server DNS service is critical for e-mail applications, and Ipswitch’s DNS Server is an excellent choice for users who want a consistent interface and more integrated environment. It features a graphical interface for easy entry of domains and hosts — there is no need to learn the obscure DNS syntax of config files. It is also efficient, built from the ground up for NT rather than a UNIX port.

System Administration

IMail's User Registration Window

IMail Server for Windows NT system administration is accomplished primarily through IMail User Manager, which allows system administrators to create and delete users, modify user properties, and create, delete, or modify aliases. Upon starting IMail User Manager, the User Registration window appears, showing all registered IMail users. A button bar allows a system administrator to choose the desired operation.

IMail's User Properties Window

Either adding users or modifying user properties brings up the same User Properties dialog box. From here, a system administrator can update a user’s Finger plan file (distributed by the Finger server), change inbound mail processing rules for users, set up vacation processing, set up an automated response using IMail’s InfoManager, change passwords, set up mail forwarding, set limits on mailbox size and number of messages, and enable or disable a variety of privileges.

IMail User Utility (IMutil)

IMail's User Utility Window

A companion program to IMail User Manager, IMutil is distributed to individual users at the discretion of their system administrator. IMutil is independent of the user’s POP3 Windows client, and it may be used on as many PCs as desired at no additional cost. IMutil gives individual users the flexibility to manage certain aspects of their mail accounts right from their PC. This includes changing their password, setting up mail forwarding and vacation processing, changing inbound mail processing rules, and updating their Finger plan file.

The information window below the button bar displays a record of the user's communication with the server, while providing feedback on the success of user requested operations.

Remote Administration Utilities Two remote administration utilities are provided with IMail Server for Windows NT. The IMail Remote Administration Utility (IRADMIN) allows a system administrator to log on to the mail server from a remote system and add or delete user mail accounts or modify user properties. The Web Remote Administration Utility (described above) allows system administrators to manage mail accounts using a Web browser on a remote system .
