Canadian Domain
Registration (.ca)
The Canadian Domain registry works a little differently
than the USA (InterNic). The CA domain, Canadian domain, is structured according to
Canadian political geography, this will be of the form "yourname.CA", or
"yourname.province-or-territory.CA", or
"yourname.locality.province-or-territory.CA".
"province-or-territory" is one of the following
provincial and
territorial abbreviations,: AB, BC, MB, NB, NF, NS, NT, ON, PE, QC, SK, and YK.
"locality" is the full name of a city, town, or village.
-For a national domain,e.g. xyz.ca, your
organization must be a legal entity which:
- is federally incorporated, or
- has its own office in multiple provinces or territories (international offices are not taken into account when
determining the scope of a CA domain name), or
- owns a trademark which is registered with the Canadian Registrar of Trade-marks and which is being put forward in full
as the organizational part of your sub domain name.
For a provincial or territorial domain,
e.g. xyz.on.ca, your organization must:
- be provincially or territorially incorporated, or
- be a registered partnership or registered proprietorship, or
- have its own offices in multiple localities, or
- be a school district, referral hospital, university or college.
For municipal level domain such as
municipal governments, schools, hospitals, libraries, museums,
proprietorships, partnership, and local organizations should apply for fourth level sub domain
names, e.g. xyz. Toronto.on.ca.
